Bad cholesterol is low-density lipoprotein (LDL) as excess can be deposited on the walls in our arteries that provide blood supply to the heart and brain. Cholesterol good type is high-density lipoprotein (HDL) which contributes to reducing LDL and therefore maintain the optimal balance between the two types.

Cholesterol in our bodies comes from two sources. Around 70% of what we should be produced by the liver, and the rest comes from our diet. We get the dietary cholesterol from animal products and dairy products. So a diet with a high content of these products may have the effect or to raise our cholesterol for addition to optimal levels. It is the fat in animals and dairy products, which contains most of the cholesterol.

Fats are mainly of two types-saturated and unsaturated.

Saturated fats are the ones who raises LDL cholesterol level. Another special type of fat called bad trans fat. This is a type of unsaturated fat produced from fat that has been put through a process called hydrogenation to convert its context from an Oily liquid form to semi solid form. A good example of this is margarine.

Unsaturated fats can be divided into two categories-polyunsaturated and monounsaturated. Both of these categories can actually help us to maintain healthy cholesterol.

Polyunsaturated fats come in two types-Omega 3 and Omega 6. You may have heard about these conditions and do not really understand what you meant.
